Liberals use Majority to reset committees
Yesterday, the Liberals used a Motion of Closure to force through votes that added extra Liberal members to every parliamentary committee. Normally, committee membership is allocated after a general election based on each party’s seat count in the House of Commons.
By increasing the size of the committees, the Liberals have given themselves a majority on every single committee — without needing to face a general election.
This manoeuvre ensures the Mark Carney Liberal government can avoid meaningful scrutiny and accountability. It is a clear example of backroom politics overriding the will of voters.
